What I Learned Today to Make Tomorrow a Better Day

Month: October 2012 (Page 1 of 2)

Ends of the Spectrum

The difference between an hour with someone who is all about them and their problems (draining) and someone excited about sharing and helping (invigorating) is stark when they come back-to-back.

Encouraging

Understand and acknowledge where some one is, then encourage them to be and do more, if only because of the effect their example will have on others.

Damage Control

To get out of a relationship with the least amount of conflict so you can remain on friendly terms, say as little as necessary and repeat areas of agreement.

Winning the Lottery

A funny name turns out to be less funny when you find out she’s an immigrant from communist Eastern Europe who was one of 2,000 (out of hundreds of thousands) who got a visa 15 years ago and came to the U.S. with a husband and child, limited English, and no jobs.

Showing Up

Getting out to big networking events at lunch and dinner makes for a busy day but is a good reminder of how rewarding it is to create and maintain connections.
