What I Learned Today to Make Tomorrow a Better Day

Month: December 2011 (Page 1 of 2)

Tense and Unhappy

I don’t know that they cause it, but there always seems to be extra tension when they’re here (and I usually end up getting sideways with my wife).

BIG Picture

Kind of fun to listen to a guy who has really BIG dreams and a really BIG vision (even if some of it sounds comically unrealistic).

He’s Fine

A little scary when the baby is spitting up blood in the middle of the night, but a doctor visit  this morning confirmed it’s a normal stage of healing after throat surgery.

Better Than Usual

No verbal retaliation when heavily criticized by my wife.  Check.

Initiating sincere apology for aforementioned criticism.  Check.

Not taking bait and staying calm during kids’ rants.  Check.

Doling out writing assignments and push-ups rather than spankings.  Check.

Waiting until the next day to address significant breach of teen maturity.  DOH!

Being There

Rearranging my schedule to be with my wife while the baby had surgery (and an overnight hospital stay) was HUGE even though I didn’t really do anything.

Deciding

Deciding to spend some savings on a reliable, higher-mpg car feels like the first step of a plan to get back on a winning streak.
